Final Music Video after audience feedback

This is my final edited version of the music video after receiving the audience feedback. I have changed some transitions and added effects onto some of the scenes.

Question 3: Audience feedback

I used Tagul to create a word cloud using words my audience feedback gave me as one of my questions was "describe the video in three words". The words they used were purely their opinion of my music video when I asked them to describe my video in three words. I am very pleased with the results they gave as many of the words listed are words I aimed to reach such as "fairytale", "teenage", "fantasy"

Alternative to final product: digital purchase

This is an alternative version to the CD case as the modern age now often favour digital copies of music tracks rather than owning the CD album of it. This is show in a popular online music store where many people often buy their music from.

100 Years (I know better)

These are the lyrics to the song I would like to use. The song is composed and performed by Steph Sims.

I know better that i’m no better
Than anyone you know, anyone you know
And i can see that i wont be much better
And it’s time to move on
Its your time to move on
I could wish in a hundred years that we still would be
But i can see youre a hundred years further away than me
I could wish in a hundred years that youd remember me
But thats unlikely

so run away run away from me, you cant stay
you are everything to me so run away
run away, run away from me, we cant be
maybe in a hundred years we’ll see

goes to show how much one person grows
leaving one behind
all alone with their mind
oh i cant be with someone so much better
im doing all i can to please this godly man
I could wish in a hundred years that we still would be
But i can see youre a hundred years further away than me
I could wish in a hundred years that youd remember me
But thats unlikely

OR instead of the last 3 lines:

i know you want to give it one more try
believe me i don't want to say goodbye
and maybe in the morning i will see
that you'll always belong right here with me

Performance Music Video: 21st Century Breakdown

21st Century Breakdown by Greenday.

Narrative Music Video: Everytime by Britney Spears

Everytime by Britney Spears shows a series of event that reflects superstar life, most probably suggesting her own. The story shows how she, who plays the protaganist, is always chased by the papparazzi and how her love life is in shambles (shown by the violence her partner invokes whilst walking and in their hotel room, as well as the arguments) because of her celebrity life as well as rumours from the papparazzi. She also narrates the story especially throughout the video where her protagonist self is in hospital. When she narrates, her costume is a white oversized shirt with a constant white surrounding suggesting innocence which relates to her song, how she portrays herself as the innocent girl who's life constantly attacked. The music video questions why the public can't understand her and how she radically chooses a rash decision to attempt suicide. Her narrating self is also partially wet which relates to her dying in the bath. I think a narrative music video was made for this song to mostly show how Britney's life has been rather than her usual dance routined videos. The audience will be able to keep an active role in this video as they can see a true insight to how Britney feels.

Concept Music Video: Fireflies by Owl City

Fireflies by Owl City
This music video is an example of a concept music video where the video itself does not make much sense but is still exciting to look at. The song itself suggests a magical experience as the toys around the room starts to move when the artist presses a "magic" button on his keyboard. Owl City might be trying to suggest fireflies are like magic. Although being a conceptual music video, Goodwin's theories still fit into the video. For example, there is strong relationship between visuals and the lyrics as keywords from the lyrics such as "fireflies" are shown to be typed out in beat with the music. Also, a good link with music and visuals as the beginning shows the lights around the room being lit in time with the beats of the song.

Music Video Research

Complicated by Avril Lavigne.
Her music genre is rock but she is quite unusual as she is not in a band and instead plays with a hired band instead. Nevertheless she fits Goodwin's theory that her music genre shows stage performance. As she is a solo artist, there was not a lot of shots on the band beside herself to which there were a lot of close ups of her as well as incorporating the notion of looking at the camera, addressing the audience. There wasn't any specific intertextual references but the narrative side of the video shows rebellious teenagers hanging around in the mall which is specifically typical of American teenagers. Though not very obvious, there are links to the lyrics and visuals such as when the lyrics mentions "Take off all your preppy clothes", the video shows the rebellious teenagers messing around with "preppy" clothes in the fitting room of a mall.

Last Friday Night by Katy Perry
Her music is popular mainstream music with a music video following a narrative concept, characteristic of this music genre. There are many signs of linking of lyrics and visuals. One example is the lyrics "There's a hickie or a bruise" with the video showing Katy Perry pointing at a hickie on her neck. Another is when the lyrics "Pictures of last night Ended up online" linked with Katy Perry looking on the equvalent of "facebook" with embarassing pictures of her. When the lyrics is speaking about how the party "rocked" katy used the popular hand gesture "rock" linking the lyrics and video together seamlessly.

Empire State of Mind by Jay-Z ft Alicia Keys
Both artists are similarly mainstream though Alicia Keys mostly covers the chorus of the song which suggest this song to appeal more to Jay-Z fans (rap genre). From the start and throughout most of the video, transitions of the photography move to the beat of the music suggesting Goodwin's theory of a relationship between music and visuals. This is used so that the viewers take more notice of the music tune as well as looking more deeply into the video. The notion of looking is different from what viewers would usually expect from a rapper who usually look straight into the camera, addressing the audience but Jay-Z is looking at the streets side to side and completely ignores the camera. This is because the lyrics is describe his life in New York City and how he climbed to success so he looks at the street he sees everytime. In contrast, Alecia Keys looks at the camera whilst playing the piano to "talk" to the audience.
